I have had the opportunity to roll with some of those killers at Unified BJJ as well. John Carlquist and Shawn Weaver. I've taken classes with James Gardner as well. It's just an amazing group of jiu jitsu talent over there. While it was certainly a waste of their time to roll with a perpetual white belt like myself they never made me feel like that, they just calmly and cooly smashed me into oblivion. I think it's important to roll with masters like that occasionally so you can feel the despair of complete helplessness but also so you know that if you work hard enough it just might be possible for you to get there too. Anytime you start feeling like you are "getting it" in an incredibly complex art like BJJ there are those guys there to bring you down to reality to show you just how far you have to go and that's pretty exciting.

In the interview with John McKean he mentions about when he and his friends started a “school.” I find it interesting that the training came from a variety of different genres such as baseball cages. I think that the variety of ways in which you can glean information for training can provide you the opportunity to become creative in how you fight.
