Ucombat’s Mike Stidham convicted of assualt from Strip Club BrawlFiled Under: Local

If you haven’t heard, our local MMA promoter Mike Stidham got recently got convicted of felony assault from a fight that happened a while back down at Southern-X-Posure.

I’ve read a couple of accounts of what went down that night not sure I agree with the verdict. I talked over the whole ordeal with a guy who, while not a personal friend of Mike’s, kind of grew up and the same circles as he did; and I have been illuminated a bit. Mike can be a bit of a rough dude; he’s got some haters, loyalists and speculators out there. Despite what has happened (or imagined to have happened) in the past, in Stidham’s own words, he shouldn’t have been at the strip club in the first place. That being said, I see good case for self defense on Mike’s part.
Maybe I’m wrong and justice was done. Who knows? (Seriously, if you were there at the fight or the court proceedings, pass the knowledge!) I do know, however, that this is a bad thing for MMA in Utah. This isn’t a deathblow to UCE – but nasty speed bump.
Utah has a good pool of mixed martial artists and fans – this is no doubt one of our many growing pains. It just sucks that this has to be one of them.
On the flip side, given enough time we will likely hear a headline like “Utah MMA fighter saves orphanage/kittens/religious leader from house fire/terrorist attack/parking ticket .”
I’m an impatient man, and that day cannot come soon enough.

I think it is important that all of us who train read closely what the judge said in this case. He stated that there is a limit to reasonable force. Basically, it sounds like they agree that Mike was defending himself, but that he took it too far.
How many of us just hope some dumbass lays hands on us so we can kick his ass? This should be a n eye opener for you. we are held to a higher standard. Don’t just open up the can of whoop ass. Careful how far it goes.

Obviously none of know what the real story is, but here’s another article with some deeper details that seem to paint Stidham as less of a victim: http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/12/30/32972.htm

heres the truth!!! the sad thing is this… everyone was showing mike respect at the club at first. southern even sponsored uce before and several quality people have worked for both companies. stidham and two other guys were fine at first but as the day went on they got drunk. They should’ve been cut off but because past association they were given more leeway which instead of being respected instead caused him to be enabled. next he started telling dancers he was going to fuck them right there on the stage… it went beyond a haha situation where girls started to complain. the final straw was when mike pulled out his cock telling girls it was what they wanted. the bouncer that got beat up is 37 year old guy and only 205 not some huge dude. he liked his job so he HAD to ask them to leave. it was ONE bouncer asking 3 drunk guys who he KNEW were fighters to leave. he followed behind them which is policy until they were almost out of the inner doors and thats when unprovoked mike turned with his 2 other guys and got in his face because he dared asked him to leave and “Do you know who i am”!. the bouncer did try to push his way out of the tightening circle as mike was moving in with his two friends on either side which is what ANY person would do when cornered and backed into a wall. but mike and others advanced on him first and put hands on him as he was getting edged back. mike threw the first punch and his friends joined in as they beat him down. mike wasn’t punched ONCE, proven on video!!!!! funny mike you show yourself bleeding and injured later for ksl but when you left laughing after beating him unconscious for 11 min and 14 sec you dint have and blood or one mark on the HD camera video. mustve been a really cool bonding moment for you three guys. Super gay that you had one of your guys cause a little damage to ya after you must’ve realized what a deushe you were to people that treated you well… fake a little damage and say poor me, self defense… oh wait there was a problem. it was recorded on video. oh shit. it showed you three taking turns as he was bleeding unconscious on the ground as you continued to walk back laughing and run forward to field goal his head since he dared asked you to leave because girls were scared of you three. self defense was never even a possibility and that’s why you got charged and even your buddy who plea bargained against you had his plea thrown out because the judge was so shocked and horrified to see the video of all 3 of you acting like fags. they continued to kick him even as a girl jumped on top of the unconcious bouncer to try to protect him with her body… this wasnt a case where this was mutual combat, this was 3 guys being jerks who were asked to leave because of how they treated women and staff and wanted payback. southern has hired several MMA guys and appreciate the sport and the DISCIPLINE but not cowards that these guys were. there is no honor in 3 on one especially when they were the ones in the wrong. you can believe their smokescreen because they should be horrified and ashamed in their actions but they cant face that. 11 min of beat down is on someone unconscious is not only excessive but cowardice when you need 2 other friends to help you…

Thanks for posting your viewpoint – it sounds like you’ve seen the video or were there. I’d love it if the vid were released so we all could find out what really happened with our own eyes.

i love this article.I think it’s crucial that all of us who train read carefully what the judge mentioned in this case. He stated that there is a restrict to sensible force. How numerous of us just hope some dumbass lays hands on us so we can kick his ass? This needs to be a n eye opener for you. we are held to a increased normal. thanks
